Boat Safety Scheme (BSS)

Brand Identity Guide 2023

Our brand isn’t just a logo. It’s a complete set of visual elements including colours and designs which stand us apart, characterise who we are and what we stand for, and make us instantly recognisable to our audience.

It’s essential our brand remains consistent to create concise, meaningful, and engaging communications.

These guidelines ensure this consistency.

For further information please contact the Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) through our website www.boatsafetyscheme.org.

Before you start

Considerations for all communications.

Taking the right approach to all our communications helps ensure consistency with our brand values.

We hope the points below will help and guide you.

Before starting a project ask yourself:

  • Who’s the audience?
  • What key messages do you want to convey?
  • What’s the ‘call to action?’
  • How will you promote / distribute the literature?

What should you remember when writing the text?

  • Ensure our key vision of ‘Go boating, Stay safe’ underpins all messaging.
  • Include our core brand values – empathy, courtesy, inclusivity, and quality – in all messaging.
  • Include contact details.

Design process and text.

  • Discuss your project with the BSS.
  • Email the BSS with an overview of your literature and initial design concepts (PDF).
  • Allow plenty of time for comments before print.
  • Once completed, send a copy of the final PDF to the BSS to include in the design archive.

Does your project include online aspects?

  • Who’s the audience?
  • What key messages do you want to convey?
  • What’s the ‘call to action?’
  • How will you promote / distribute the literature?
